Led by Danielle Gasparro.
For High School Students and Adults.
It's no secret that when it comes to great writing, there is one guiding principle of craft that's regarded across all genres as a literary "north star": The more personal the writing, the more universal its reach. Less commonly known, however, is a clear, practical answer to the vital question this paradoxical maxim raises: What is happening on the page when a writer succeeds in composing a highly subjective work that speaks deeply to many readers?
For those of us drawn to creative nonfiction, being vulnerable and exposing our most personal truths in a way that serves the reader, rather than our egos, is as crucial an undertaking as it can be challenging. Fortunately, there are several tools we as writers can draw upon when striving to render the depth of our emotions and lived experiences with literary flair, and this fun, far-reaching workshop inspires as it delivers on the "how-to" promise.
Through dynamic craft talks, guided discussions, and close, interactive readings, we'll explore how masterful writers integrate the language of detail and imagination to produce fiercely intimate, meaningful works that honor shared aspects of the human condition. The program will culminate in a powerful sequence of writing prompts designed to generate a vivid collection of defining life moments—or, "Soularoids"—from which we'll draft a short personal narrative, memoir piece, or lyrical vignette that aims to illustrate the value of our program's esteemed literary creed.
In the spirit of the holiday season, participants will be given the option to keep someone special in mind as they write (including themselves!) to whom they might present a printed and framed final version of their workshop piece as a marvel of a gift!
Writers and readers of all experience levels are encouraged to partake in this vibrant, eye-opening program.
Light snacks will be provided, and seating will be limited. Register today to secure your spot!
