Launched by the Westchester County Historical Society in February 2025, "Experiencing the Neutral Ground of the American Revolution: The McDonald Interviews" is a digital collection containing over 400 firsthand accounts of the Revolutionary War. John Macdonald, an attorney, interviewed over 250 people in Westchester, Bronx, and Fairfield counties from 1844 through 1851. These accounts shed light on some of the more well-known incidents of the Revolution that took place in these counties, such as the Battle of White Plains and the capture of Major John Andre, but also reveal the struggles of the residents who lived through this tumultuous time. This presentation will introduce the creation of the collection and highlight excerpts from the interviews. It will also explain the structure of the digital collection and provide tips for browsing and searching.

Presented by Patrick Raftery, Associate Director and Librarian for the Westchester County Historical Society.
