For thousands of years, the only people in the world with access to the sweet taste of cacao were ancient Mesoamerican cultures, who fittingly used the sweet tree bean for everything from sacred rituals to medicine. But through globalization, the industrial revolution, and two World Wars, chocolate found its way to every corner of the globe, while still retaining that luxury status. From groundbreaking innovations it helped spark to its enduring presence in pop culture, it’s time to embark on a tantalizing journey through time and taste surrounding the world’s favorite sweet treat.
Presented by historian and lecturer Lucy Jane Santos.
